I work with a disproportionately high number of Ashkenazi Jews with chronic illness, with amazing results. Truly miraculous. I've asked myself why this is? Even though statistically I should be working with much more Europeans based on genetic predispositions to bad T4 (levothyroxine) conversion to T3 (liothyronine).
I'm aware of a possible IQ bias. Higher IQ individuals tend to take their health into their own hands. It also requires someone to have a powerful self-deterministic attitude. But it also seems that there is a weak consititution because selective pressures focused on intelligence above resistance.
I'm telling you that this is one of the main issues right now. I can't determine exactly why. Is it chemicals in our food (seed oils, dyes, preservatives)? Water? Clothes? Is it radiation and electromagnetic waves? Is it polluted air from chemtrails and exhausts?
But even though we can't truly know what's killing our metabolic health, we can aggressively try to reverse it. We can harness our own bodies ability of regeneration through 2000 year old traditions of dry fasting (Yom Kippur, Tisha B'Av, Ramadan, Black fasts) but we can also use more modern strategies that harness the molecule of energy: T3 liothyronine.

This post explores a provocative but deeply evidence-based theory: that high-cognitive-demand brains burn more energy, which means metabolic decline hits them harder and faster than average. The result? Higher rates of autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, and more.

I think it's fair to say that the genetics must be a mix of brain capacity and also environmental factors. Northern European lands meant many situations of famine due to harsh winters. Adaptations to starvation make a lot of sense. The body survives if it can quickly drop the metabolic rate. The only problem is that it's very difficult to bring it back up. Survival genetics don't care about staying stuck in a lower metabolic state, as long as you survive.
Let's imagine someone who uses 2,000 calories daily for their brain activity at rest. Purely genetics, the brain just won't stop firing. Now compare that to someone whose brain works at half the speed: 1,000 calories at rest. If metabolic disease (something we are constantly exposed to, chipping away at our health) drops both people's metabolic rate from 2,000 to 1,500, it's pretty clear who suffers more.
The brain is the organ the body protects at all costs. There's a study on rats and dry fasting where they dissected brains to observe autophagy. The study was called the "Selfish Brain." It found that while the whole body dehydrates, the brain does not — in fact, the brain activates autophagy incredibly quickly on a dry fast, within a day. The body will do everything to preserve the brain first.

So if the brain needs to be protected, but your metabolic energy has dropped below the brain's threshold, the body will go into a large panic. You can expect brain fog, tremors, neuropathy, depression, the whole shebang.
The medical system's answer to this is an antidepressant.
Not T3. Not a metabolic reset. An antidepressant, which patches the signal while the underlying energy crisis continues to silently destroy the body from the inside. The two most prescribed medications in the United States right now are thyroid medication and antidepressants. One for the energy system. One for the mood system. What if they're the same problem?
T3 is nature's antidepressant. When cellular energy is restored, mood follows. Focus returns. The nervous system stops running in survival mode. This is basic bioenergetics (read some Ray Peat). The research on T3 and depression predates the entire SSRI era.
The fix is not complicated in principle, it's just aggressively ignored.
Reset the metabolic system. Restore T3. Rebuild from a state of energy abundance, not depletion. The ancient traditions got this right intuitively, two to three days without food or water. The body forced into a deep repair state. Autophagy activated. Insulin sensitivity reset. The liver forced to clean house.
The Scorch Protocol is what happens when you take those ancient fasting traditions and combine them with what we now know about T3, hGH, and metabolic recovery. It was built for people with ME/CFS and Long Covid. People whose bodies are stuck in exactly the pattern described above, and the results speak for themselves.
If you've been sick for years, if every test comes back "normal," if you've been handed antidepressants and told to manage your expectations, this is for you. Your brain is not broken. Your energy system is. And that is fixable.
